Now with more hardware failures. Any spare hardware to replace Dell OptiPlex 755?

Matter can only produce emergent properties. Emergent properties don't exist; that is, they only exist as ideas. There is no such thing as mind-independent, objective emergent properties, in the same way there is no such thing as mind-independent, objective information. Only the mind gives these things meaning. The mind exists; this is self-evident. Thus the mind isn't an emergent property. Thus the mind can't be produced by matter. Thus the mind is immaterial. Computers can't produce immaterial things. Thus computers can't produce minds.

It can be deduced, not just induced, that matter cannot produce consciousness, because there is no such objective thing as "emergent properties." An electron, or any number of electrons, passing between any number of points, in any permutation, through any combination or permutation of mediums, cannot produce consciousness, because of the simple fact that matter is never objectively more than its parts.

The mind necessarily precedes quantification. Without it, no computation even has any meaning.

So, /g/

I hate to make these kind of threads, pretty much asking for help, but the thing is:

I started to learn programming a few months ago, I'm not good yet but I think I have basics (python), however, I never really found a goal on programming, like everyone said I had to (making a game for example)

So suddenly the idea of an AI comes to me, and it seems fucking cool (and hard as well), I'm actually really interested and willing to do what I have to do to make a functional AI, I checked Google but I can't find any actual info on it, so I'm here, asking for help.

I want to start with some basic stuff, like simply making a game of chess where the cpu actually plays against you, or any simple game that has any intelligence on it

Could you give some help, guys?

We should start using our GPUs to do voice recognition and synthesis instead of sending shit to the cloud. Basically think of any machine learning thing that is currently in the botnet, and you could be doing it on your own computer with the GPU.

You dumb shit, it's not a Linux fork, so it's not a "distro." I linked to the kernel, it's not the Linux kernel. /g/ posters are so fuckign stupid.

"We're no longer programming computers. We're training them."

Thoughts? Has machine learning become the default tool for solving hard problems like faceswaps, siri and "what ads do people like?"

Why aren't you learning programming yet, /g/ ?

You do realize that because of the staggering growth in deep learning and robotics, AI, most people will be out of jobs by 2025 ?

We already have 100% functioning self-driving trucks. Do you know how many truck drivers are in the US alone?

They are automating doctors, lawyers already.

Become a programmer, the only way to secure a future for yourself and your children.

Pro-tip: even programming will be automated ultimately, but that won't happen until the technological singularity (2045 or later - just an estimate by AI experts)

I'm going to study PROLOG, Lisp and Python while reading through SICP and Artificial Intelligence Illuminated so I can start trying to get myself into an AI related field after I finish my Physics degree and start a AI/quantum computing masters or something after (not entirely sure yet).

So first of all any advice? Is SICP a good start, should I just go through it page by page? I know some Python already as a result of my physics course so far.
Also would partitioning my hdd to install a linux OS be worth it if I want to learn more about comp sci and programming? Which one should I install, there's a lot of options

What do we do once our technology is as smart as us or smarter?

Technology will cause unemployment this time because technology now automates cognition.

How do we use technology to equitably distribute wealth in society? Stephen Hawking has said that computers will pass human intelligence within 100 years. This means that almost all human labour will no longer have value within 100 years.

Currently, technology concentrates wealth. Think about the progression of the USA's largest companies. Huge car companies and oil companies employed thousands of people and created millions of jobs. These companies, which were America's most valuable companies, were succeeded by technology companies like Apple, Google, Facebook, Microsoft, and Canonical. All of these companies barely employ anyone. Here is a small list to give you an idea of how few jobs new technology is creating.

Company - Employees

Apple - 98,000

Google - 55,419

Facebook - 10,082

Microsoft - 128,076

Canonical - 700+
