Why is this cover so unsettling? There's something so disturbing about this album cover. It's almost too scary to look at.

I know what you mean. I actually haven't heard this one yet, though. It's a full band recording, right? With The Units or something? Anyway. I've been meaning to get around to it. Hoping the music reflects the eeriness of the cover.

Probably how arbitrary it seems. Why would he take a picture of a book on a windowsill? Why would he paint his room like that? Without an explanation, and without anything that makes it seem deliberately random, it's unsettling.

It's never struck me as scary, though. What I like about it (probably due to the composition) is that it really places you in the room.

It's his debut. it was originally released by "The Units" even though it's just one dude. and yeah, the music definitely reflects the cover, as with pretty much all his albums

By the way, there's this really good looking copy of Six and Six at my local record store on vinyl. It's priced at 80 dollars and when I asked the store's owner about it, recommending he put it up on his wall so that people would see it, he said that I'm the only one who's noticed it in the months it had just been sitting in that stack. So it's pretty much mine for the taking but I don't know if I want to drop 80 dollars on that thing, as much as I enjoy it. I don't know. Should I go for it? I understand his music is fairly difficult to come by.

I have no idea what a good price for the vinyl versions is, but yeah I've heard they're rare

another incentive to get it is that the digital and vinyl versions sound way different, because in rereleasing the albums on CD, a lot of noise canceling stuff was applied. really hard to come across vinyl rips too.

I tried ranking/rating his albums, but there are so many I'm far from confident in my placements, and the placements are definitely my placements for THIS WEEK as opposed to something I'd plan to defend a year from now. Excluding albums I haven't listened to/don't have a very good memory of. Anyway:

I think his music is fairly consistent in quality, so you might as well just start with his debut, Ready For The House.

If you want something with more pop leanings, I'd recommend Follow Your Footsteps or You Walk Alone. If you want something more droney and meditative I'd rec Later On or Chair Beside A Window. If you want avant rock, I'd rec Foreign Keys. If you want something kind of psychedelic or want something with a varied sound, I'd rec Interstellar Discussion. Graven Image doesn't have a sound that stands out in a way describable in terms like those above, but it's the most emotionally affecting (for me at least) and has generally great songwriting
